Xurya: Powering Indonesia’s Energy Future with Expansion
As part of its commitment to advancing Indonesia’s clean energy transition, Australian Development Investments (ADI), together with Sarona Asset Management, has supported Xurya in pursuing a more strategic and sustainable path for market expansion.
Through targeted technical assistance, ADI and Sarona equipped Xurya with the tools, data, and institutional capacity needed to expand into new renewable energy markets while embedding inclusivity and sustainability at every step.
Building the Foundation for Strategic Growth
The technical assistance engagement focused on strengthening Xurya’s market readiness and long-term commercial viability through a series of coordinated initiatives:
- Market study to explore new opportunities as a solar power producer.
- Comprehensive market and regulatory analysis mapping potential growth areas.
- Financial feasibility assessment and development of business models to guide expansion.
- Identification of strategic partnerships and risk mitigation strategies.
- Gender equity gap assessment and creation of a strategic action plan to advance inclusivity.
These efforts provided Xurya with actionable insights and recommendations for scaling its solar operations sustainably, expanding its reach beyond Indonesia’s established on-grid solar market.
Embedding Inclusion in Renewable Energy
A key component of this support was capacity building on Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) in the renewable energy sector—co-facilitated by the DFAT-funded Australia-Indonesia Partnership for Climate, Renewable Energy and Infrastructure (KINETIK) program’s GEDSI team.
This collaboration helped Xurya develop a GEDSI review and action plan that embeds inclusion across its HR, recruitment, and operational policies, strengthening both its organizational culture and its long-term ESG leadership.
Results and Impact
Guided by ADI and Sarona’s support, Xurya completed a comprehensive market study that has informed a major new strategic direction—expanding beyond on-grid solar into Indonesia’s off-grid Commercial & Industrial (C&I) and Independent Power Producer (IPP) markets.
This strategic shift positions Xurya to serve remote and underserved regions, contributing to Indonesia’s Electricity Supply Business Plan (RUPTL) 2025–2035 and its goal of 38 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2035.
Key outcomes:
- New strategic direction into off-grid C&I and IPP solar markets.
- GEDSI action plan integrated across HR, recruitment, and operations.
- Strengthened institutional capacity and ESG alignment.
- Expanded pathways for inclusive participation in Indonesia’s clean energy transition.
Impact data:
- Women on board: 43%
- Women employees: 29%
- Installed capacity: 196 MWp
- GHG emissions avoided: 87,586 tCO₂eq
Partnership Driving Transformation
Through this collaboration, ADI and Sarona are demonstrating how technical assistance can bridge the gap between commercial performance and developmental impact—empowering private sector partners like Xurya to deliver sustainable, inclusive energy solutions at scale.
Together, these efforts are helping to shape a cleaner, more equitable energy future for Indonesia, one that balances profitability, people, and the planet.
