TEKY: A Future of Opportunities Through Steam Education in Vietnam

ADI provided an anchor equity investment in 2022 into SWEEF’s Fund I, helping mobilise millions in co-investment from private investors in Australia, Canada and Europe, as well as further investment from DFIs and development banks. SWEEF used this funding to invest into TEKY.

Founded in 2016 and led by Ms. Dao Lan Huong, TEKY is the first Vietnam-based educational technology company to implement a STEAM curriculum. TEKY is currently operating a network of 21 STEAM centers, offering in-person and online courses, across five major cities in Vietnam. With a focus on a diverse range of subjects such as coding, 3D technology, robotics engineering, application development, programming, and multimedia, these dedicated centers aim to enhance the skills of 10,000 students aged 5-18 years, with girls comprising 15% of total.

Beyond enhancing the technological knowledge of Vietnamese children, TEKY’s vision is to change gender stereotypes in STEAM fields. Starting with founder and a team that is 77% women, TEKY is a role-model in promoting women representation in STEAM education and careers.

Research reveals that although girls perform well in STEAM subjects, it is estimated that currently less than a third of female students pursue higher education courses and a subsequent career in these fields. TEKY has a clear focus on building literacy and confidence in STEAM for all its students and by increasing girls and young women’s access to and participation in STEAM education, there is a real chance to opening their future economic opportunities and closing the wide gender gap in the STEAM sector.

Investing in STEAM education goes far beyond the benefits it brings to individuals. TEKY plays a key role, planting the seed of interest in young Vietnamese students, and shaping a more productive and equitable digital economy and society.
