Bridging the financing gap for Indonesian businesses
For generations, farming families in Indonesia have harvested nectar from coconut blossoms to produce coconut sugar. Today, Big Tree Farms is helping carry that tradition forward, working with more than 19,000 farming partners while supporting livelihoods and local communities.
Yet businesses like Big Tree Farms can face a significant financing challenge. They have often grown beyond the reach of microfinance, while remaining too small for many large institutional investors. This gap can make it difficult for promising small and medium-sized businesses to access the capital they need to grow.
The Asia Climate-Smart Landscape Fund (ACLF), managed by ADM Capital, is helping address this gap by providing financing to small and medium-sized businesses operating across sustainable agriculture, forestry and other climate-related sectors in Asia.
Through KINETIK, Australian Development Investments (ADI) is investing in ACLF alongside Australian foundations and family offices, including the Minderoo Foundation, the Paul Ramsay Foundation and the LEEAF Trust.
The investment demonstrates how ADI’s capital can create pathways for Australian investors to participate in opportunities across Indonesia and Southeast Asia.
For foundations and family offices in particular, funds such as ACLF can provide a way to put capital to work through an established investment structure while supporting businesses that contribute to climate resilience, sustainable livelihoods and stronger local economies.
Big Tree Farms puts a human face on what that capital can support. Access to finance can help locally rooted businesses grow, strengthen supply chains and create opportunities for thousands of farming families.
It is also an example of the broader role ADI is designed to play: helping mobilise more private capital into Southeast Asia and connecting Australian investors with investment opportunities that can deliver financial and development outcomes.
